Over time, the SME Loop has been adapted for various fields of application:
Gender Transformative SME Loop (GTA Loop)
Female business owners particularly face further obstacles in developing their individual entrepreneurial skills and being perceived as drivers in the local economy and society. Root cause for women’s marginalization are outdated mindsets of decision makers, economic actors, family members and the society. Therefore, the SME Loop was modified to systematically
promote gender equality: the Gender Transformative SME Business Training and Coaching Loop (GTA Loop) provides guidance to support the development of a transformative pathway in relation to women’s (economic) empowerment.
Social Enterprise Loop
The main objective of a social enterprise is to generate a social or environmental impact through its economic activity, the profits made being used mainly to finance the pursuit of this objective. With its focus on impact and its ability to generate its own income, this model has since been acknowledged for its ability to be self-financing and to contribute to the sustainable development goals (SDGs) through entrepreneurship.
Start-up Loop
The primary objective of Start-up Loop is to guide and support potential entrepreneurs in their business start-ups. The Start-up Loop is an adaptation of the SME Business Training and Coaching Loop (SME Loop) developed by GIZ for existing or established MSMEs. It was successfully piloted by GIZ in collaboration with 4 organisations in 2018 and scaled up in 2019 in Niger, Plateau and Ogun States.
